Chatbot setup
Inviting donations and participation in a charity event from your viewers can be daunting. Here are some commands and timers you may add to your chatbot to help communicate what the event is about and how viewers may engage.
Start by logging into the dashboard interface for your bot.
Do you use a different bot? Message @redbeardymcgee on Discord for help, and we will add instructions for your bot here too!
Commands
Chat commands must be triggered by typing the name. Most are named with a prefixed with an exclamation point like !helloworld, but many bots support commands triggered by any or no prefix at all. These are helpful for answering common questions about the event, such as where to donate or learn more about the charity.
Examples
Mermaids supports transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse children and young people. Their work reduces isolation and loneliness, helps negotiate education and health services, helps young people to cope better with mental and emotional distress, improves the self-esteem and social skills of children and young people, and improves awareness, understanding and practices of teachers, GP’s, CAMHS, Social Services and other professionals.
Configuration
On the left sidebar, click Commands.
Click New Command in the top right corner.
Name the command.
Use a memorable name, and don't forget to include the command trigger prefix!
In Response, paste a command message from the Examples above. Feel free to customize it for your community, or create your own.
Leave the Required User-Level on the default setting, Everyone.
Repeat these steps for any extra commands you'd like to add. Consider including them in your stream titles during the event to make viewers aware!
Timers
Timer commands are automatically triggered on a periodic interval, without requiring someone to type a command. These are useful to remind viewers about the event, the charity, and the meaning of Pride.
Examples
Pride With Friends is a charity drive occurring throughout Pride Month. This year we are supporting Mermaids, an organization that provides phone, email and web chat support, moderated online forums, events and groups for families and young people, training, and campaigning for the things that matter most to trans children and young people.
Configuration
On the left sidebar, click Timers.
Click New Timer in the top right corner.
Name the timer.
The name of this timer is not strictly important. It will be triggered automatically according to the interval defined below the message.
In Message paste a timer message from the Examples above. Feel free to customize it for your community, or create your own.
Set the Interval to a value that suits your stream's chat activity.
The default 5 minutes will probably be too frequent. Try starting with a 15 minute interval; this can always be readjusted later.
This is enough to make Nightbot remind chatters about the charity and event. You may also disable the timer unless a certain number of chat lines have been sent since the previous trigger, or alias the timer to an existing command to reuse the same message. These options may be found by clicking the Show Advanced Settings button.
